About a week ago a coach bus arrived carrying approximately 30 people. Mainly young preteens on a school trip from Ontario. When these young people arrived their faces were filled with joy, wonder and excitement. That was until I told them they could only reach Kyuquot by boat, and the boats were on the way. The kids faces lifted into huge smiles and the questions started. I over heard a young girl saying to her friend how beautiful it is here at Fair Harbour. So I mentioned to her that she hasn’t seen the full beauty until she sees Kyuquot. They were about to spend a week in Kyuquot and learn the ways of the beautiful people of Kyuquot. The history, traditions, culture and more would be exchanged during the week spent here. A week went by and this morning at 5 am the coach bus rumbled into the parking lot at Fair Harbour. A boat ride in and tired sad faces were boarding the bus. So I asked one of the kids why they were sad. They told me that they never wanted to leave, they made new friends and new second families and to leave meant they might lose something that was fun. So I told her that she and everyone here is always more than welcome again, bring your families and create new memories. Show them everything you learned from the Kyuquot people, and by doing that you will never lose a single thing from here.
